It's triangle time! I love sewing triangles together, once you have the hang of sewing them together they are a really simple way to piece a quilt. We have recommended two ruler options for this month:
- Two Peaks ruler, which can cut full and half triangles up to 6";
- Triangle squared ruler in addition to the Perfect rectangle ruler, which will cut triangles up to 9"
Cutting full triangles
Cutting half triangles
NOTES
We are using plain fabrics for Blossom so we just turn the fabric over if we need a different orientation. But if you are using printed fabrics then you need to be careful cutting the half triangles as you may need two types, left slanting and right slanting.
- Using the triangle ruler place the ruler onto of your strip of fabric. Match up the top flat edge of t he ruler with the top of the strip. The bottom of the strip should line up with the appropriate marking on the ruler. For this example it is a 2½" strip so lines up with the 2½" this will give us a 2" finished triangle.
- Cut along both sides and then flip your triangle ruler matching up the bottom top and cut edge. Cut this second triangle and then just keep rotating the ruler to cut the required number of triangles.
Cutting half triangles
- Half triangles are cut in a similar way, either using the Perfect rectangle ruler or the opposite end of the Two peaks ruler.
- Line up the top flat edge of the ruler with the top of the strip and make sure the appropriate marker on the ruler is in line with the bottom of the strip.
- Cut along the sides and cut the small notch at the edge of the top. Rotate the ruler to continue cutting.

Lining up triangles
The notches cut will the ruler allow you to line up the triangles for the perfect seam.
Use the photos below to make sure you are lining up the triangles correctly. As you can see your ¼" seam will sew right through the area where the notches line up.
