Welcome to Month 2
This month it's Quarter Square Triangles (QSTs), these are very similar to Half Square triangles (HSTs) in fact you sew two HSTs together to create a QST. Like HSTs we're making these over sized and then trimming down to size. This means we don't need to be super accurate when making them.

Making QSTs
TIPS
- Using the larger squares make the yellow/green and yellow/orange half square triangles using the instructions.
- Press the seams away from the yellow side and then draw a diagonal line across the yellow/green HSTs, this line is the opposite diagonal to the sewn seam.
- Place a yellow/green HST on top of a yellow/orange HST. You want the yellow side of the top one to be RST with the orange side of the bottom HST.
- Make sure the diagonal lines are nested together and then pin to keep together.
- Sew ¼" away from the drawn line on both sides and the cut along the drawn line.
TIPS
- Take time to make sure the seams are nested (pushed up against each other) as this is your centre point of the QST.
- Don't worry if the HSTs aren't an exact match, they are oversized so will be cut back..
Trimming QSTs
NOTE: the centre point is half of the unfinished size. So if you are making different sized QSTs then adjust the centre to the correct size. |
