We're all sewing blocks together this week!!!
I love it when blocks start coming together as you get a little glimpse of what the quilt will start to look like. Both quilt teams this week so I'm looking forward to seeing your blocks.

Team Matrix
If you're joining me in the Matrix quilt then we are starting to put together the square blocks. You've got two weeks, so no need to rush. The strip sets are made so just follow the pattern to make up the blocks as shown. Remember to press seams open as it will make it easier when you put the whole quilt together.
Team Grid
if you're team grid then you are continuing all of the block making from last week. The fun thing is as you start getting blocks in different colours you an really start to see how epic the quilt is going to look.

Team Grid - Staying organised
I've seen lots of great posts showing your organisation and fabric swatch cards, well done everyone. Keep doing the great work and if you're feeling adventurous now check out Lisa's chain piecing video. Team Matrix - Open seams For simplicity of sewing then I do prefer pressing seams to the side, however, if you can't nest the seams across the whole quilt then it can become really hard to sew together. For this reason it is really important to press your seams open. You will also get a flatter finish to the quilt, so the extra effort will be worth it, I promise. Team Matrix - Double pin When matching open seams then a double pin approach is your friend. One pin before the seam and one after will keep that seam tightly in place as you sew. If you have the pins facing towards the seam then you can also slowly sew over them. Team Matrix - Oops My last big tip is to double check the Block illustration before you sew together, twice I sewed the strips the wrong way round because I wasn't reading my own pattern, embarrassing I know!!! |
Remember to post your photos using the #RainbowremixSAL and tag me @paulasteel.quilts and Lisa @modernquiltclub so we can share in your achievements and spread the encouragement.
Good luck with all of the cutting, I know for me it's the most patience testing part :) And check back next week for week 4!
