Half Square Triangles really are one of my favourite blocks, they are simple to make and so versatile. This pattern has quite a few, so take you time and get them all ready. This pattern requires you to trim your HSTs, I know it's time consuming but it really does make a difference to the final quilt. The size of the squares won't leave you a lot to trim off (see tip below) so don't be over generous with your ¼" seam when sewing next to that line.
TIP - When sewing the line ¼" from the centre drawn line use a scant (slightly smaller) ¼" seam so you have a little extra to trim. |
Flying Geese
So, you've been good and trimmed all of your HSTs so as a reward these Flying Geese don't need trimming. We're making them the simple way with one rectangle and two squares, it keeps it simple and you won't be sewing on the pesky bias. TIP - When sewing on the line on the square don't start in the bottom corner, start at the opposite corner. This will really help if your sewing machine has a habit of eating fabric. |
Good luck getting these all ready, we'll start making blocks next week which is really exciting.
